Building Energy Use and Cost Analysis Tool
DOE-2 is a widely used and accepted freeware building energy analysis program that can predict the energy use and cost for all types of buildings. DOE-2 uses a description of the building layout, constructions, usage, conditioning systems (lighting, HVAC, etc.) and utility rates provided by the user, along with weather data, to perform an hourly simulation of the building and to estimate utility bills.
Proven Through Thirty Years of Development and Support…
For over two decades we have been developing and supporting DOE-2; this has lead to a very capable and feature rich product. Over its lifetime several versions of DOE-2 have been developed and released to the public; we currently offer you our “latest and greatest” version, DOE-2.2, as well as continue to make available a “legacy” version, DOE-2.1E. We suggest you use either DOE-2.2, DOE-2.3 or, even better, eQUEST which is our flagship DOE-2.2 and DOE-2.3 based interactive building energy use analysis product.
DOE-2.3 - The latest DOE-2 building energy simulation and cost calculation engine is DOE-2.3. You can download a "release candidate" version of DOE-2.3 and its complete documentation from the DOE-2.3 download area, but you must complete a DOE-2.3 license agreement and scan/email, mail or fax it to us and we will then send you a password for the program zip archive; email and US mail address and fax number are on license.
DOE-2.2 - The current primary DOE-2 building energy simulation and cost calculation engine is DOE-2.2. You can review an Overview of DOE-2.2 and learn about Converting DOE-2.1E input files to DOE-2.2. You can download DOE-2.2 and its complete documentation from the DOE-2.2 download area, but you must complete a DOE-2.2 license agreement and scan/email, mail or fax it to us and we will then send you a password for the program zip archive; email and US mail address and fax number are on license.
D2comply - The new DOE-2.2 based California Title 24 compliance engine. D2comply 3.6 was approved by the California Energy Commission as a 2005 Title 24 non-Residential ACM in April 2007. This is the component used by eQUEST version 3.6 to perform Title 24 compliance analysis; third party developers can use this package to build additional certified tools. For full standard DOE-2.2 use you should obtain a standard release version of DOE-2.2 as mentioned above.
DOE-2.1E - Versions of the older DOE-2.1E and its complete documentation set can be downloaded from the DOE-2.1E download area, but you must complete a DOE-2.1E license agreement and scan/email, mail or fax it to us, and we will then send you a password for the program zip archive; email and US mail address and fax number are on license.
DOE-2 on CD - To obtain a DOE-2 CD, with program versions, documentation and weather data, mail the appropriate license(s) to us with a payment of $55US (add $5US for Canada, $10US outside North America.) US mail address to send your license(s) and payment is found on the DOE-2 license agreement.
The latest Breakthrough in DOE-2 Building Energy Use Modeling is here…
enhanced DOE-2.2 +
Wizards + Graphics
eQUEST is a sophisticated, yet easy to use, freeware building energy use analysis tool which provides professional-level results with an affordable level of effort. eQUEST was designed to allow you to perform detailed comparative analysis of building designs and technologies by applying sophisticated building energy use simulation techniques but without requiring extensive experience in the "art" of building performance modeling. This is accomplished by combining schematic and design development building model creation wizards, an energy efficiency measure (EEM) wizard and a graphical results display module with an enhanced DOE-2-derived building energy use simulation program. You can review the eQUEST Overview to get a more complete summary of the features and capabilities of this excellent program.

DOE-2.2 Reports and Modeling Quality Control Concepts
(The DOE-2.2 Reports-and-QC download is a ZIP archive that contains a set of three documents in Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF) and example eQUEST/DOE-2.2 input and DOE-2.2 simulation results output; the documents provide an explanation of the detailed DOE-2.2 output text results file.):
DOE-2.1A Engineers Manual (theory and algorithms of calculation for the original DOE-2 program - out-of-date but most of the concepts are still used in DOE-2.2 - LOADS calculation is very similar, air-side HVAC is similar but improved, water-side HVAC is completely new but has some similar approaches):
Note: The DOE-2.2 Manuals are in Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF.) These documents (as with other documentation files for DOE-2 and eQUEST) use PDF version 1.5 (Acrobat or Acrobat Reader version 6) and may not be opened with versions earlier than Acrobat 5; to update your Acrobat Reader go to the adobe site for the free download . These manuals contain details of the DOE-2.2 Building Description Language (BDL) created and displayed by the eQUEST user interface as well as the descriptions of all DOE-2.2 output reporting capabilities. These documents are the basis of the eQUEST on-line help system but contain a more complete and up-to-date description of the details of the DOE-2.2 version within the current release of eQUEST.
Download a complete DOE-2.1E version 136 for Win 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP. This archive contains the “DOS box” (.exe) batch version of DOE-2.1E; this version is a legacy version that includes the last set of features we added into DOE-2.1E before switching all development to DOE-2.2 in the mid-1990’s. The archive also contains readable program source (for BDL, simulation components, as well as support programs and data bases.) You will also need the DOE-2.1E Manuals to use this program effectively and here are the installation and execution instructions. (posting date: 11/04/2003, ~3.8 MB)
Download a complete DOE-2.1E version 96 for Win 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP. This archive contains the “DOS box” (.exe) batch version of DOE-2.1E first released late 1993; this version is an old legacy version that reflects the version that the USDOE distributes. The archive also contains readable program source (for BDL, simulation components, as well as support programs and data bases.) You will also need the DOE-2.1E Manuals to use this program effectively. (posting date: 11/04/2003, ~3.6 MB)

DOE-2 derivative works, source and distribution licensing:
We provide complete licensing for DOE-2 (2.2 and 2.1E) source and executables. These licenses can be purchased to allow the development and distribution of new applications based upon eQUEST and/or DOE-2. Licenses are available for development and distribution of both single user PC’s as well as for network server based products. You can click on these links to download and view samples of the eQUEST derivative works, source and distribution licenses for desktop PC’s and/or desktop PC's and network servers.
